Neck Pain Treatment in Utah

Stiffness after a car accident, pain that runs into your arm, or an ache that builds through every workday all have a cause. Find out what is behind yours and which treatment fits it.

What Neck Pain Is

Why Your Neck Hurts, and Why It Can Keep Coming Back

The neck is the most mobile part of the spine, and that mobility comes at a price. Seven small vertebrae, the discs between them, the joints behind them, and the muscles and ligaments around them all hold up your head while it turns, tilts, and looks down at a screen. When any one of them is strained, worn, or irritated, you feel it as neck pain.

Common causes include muscle strain from posture or overuse, wear in the discs and joints of the neck, a bulging or herniated disc pressing on a nerve, and whiplash from a car accident. When a nerve is involved, pain can travel into the shoulder blade, arm, or hand, sometimes with numbness or tingling. Neck problems can also set off headaches that start at the base of the skull.

The usual advice is rest, a heating pad, and something for the pain, and that is often enough for a mild strain. When the same stiffness keeps coming back, it may be a sign that what caused it has not been addressed.

Don't Wait It Out

Signs It's Time to Get Your Neck Evaluated

  • Neck pain or stiffness that has lasted more than a few weeks or keeps coming back
  • Pain, numbness, or tingling that travels into your shoulder, arm, or hand
  • Trouble turning your head to check a blind spot or look over your shoulder
  • Headaches that start at the base of your skull or build through the day
  • Neck pain or stiffness that started after a car accident, even a minor one

Neck problems are often easier to treat early, before the surrounding muscles tighten into a guarding pattern and the stiffness becomes your normal. After a car accident, symptoms often show up hours or days later, so feeling fine at the scene does not rule out an injury.

Get emergency care right away for severe neck pain after a crash, fall, or diving injury; neck pain with a fever, a severe headache, and a neck too stiff to bend your chin to your chest; neck pain with shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, or arm or jaw pain; or sudden weakness, new clumsiness in your hands, trouble walking, or loss of bladder or bowel control.

The Full Toolbox

Neck Pain Treatment, From Conservative to Advanced

At Integrated Pain Specialists, medical providers, chiropractors, and physical therapists work under one roof, so your plan is built from the whole toolbox rather than one specialty’s answer.

Restore motion. Once the exam rules out a fracture or instability, chiropractic care and mobilization address stiff, restricted joints in the neck and upper back, and massage and soft tissue work ease the tight muscles in the neck and shoulders that keep pain going.

Take pressure off the nerve. When a bulging or herniated disc is pinching a nerve, spinal decompression gently stretches the neck and can help ease that pressure, without surgery or medication.

Rebuild support. Physical therapy strengthens the deep neck and upper back muscles and retrains the posture habits that load the neck, so relief is more likely to last.

Calm the flare. When pain is too intense to work through, trigger point injections, nerve blocks, and other targeted injections can settle irritated muscles, joints, or nerves so the rest of the plan can do its job.

Regenerative options. For appropriate candidates, regenerative medicine may support the body’s own repair process.

Our Neck Pain Program

Find the Source, Then Treat It

Every plan starts with a thorough exam, and imaging when it is needed, to find whether the pain is coming from a joint, a disc, a nerve, or the muscles around them. From there we combine chiropractic care, soft tissue work, physical therapy, decompression, and medical care into a schedule built around your case, not a one-size protocol.

Care is delivered at our Bountiful and South Jordan clinics, and your progress is measured at each stage, from how far you can turn your head to whether pain still travels into your arm. If your neck pain started after a crash, see how we treat auto accident injuries, and if headaches are part of the picture, see our headache and migraine care. When a disc is behind the pain, see our herniated disc treatment. The goal is lasting relief without relying on surgery or daily medication.

The Integrated Difference

One Team, One Plan, Every Option

You do not have to guess whether this is a muscle problem, a joint problem, or a pinched nerve. Our integrated team evaluates it together and builds one plan, whether that is chiropractic care, physical therapy, spinal decompression, injections, or a combination. The first step is a free consultation.

Common Questions

Neck Pain FAQs

What causes neck pain?

Common causes are muscle strain from posture or overuse, wear in the discs and small joints of the neck, a bulging or herniated disc pressing on a nerve, and whiplash from a car accident. Because each one is treated differently, an exam and, when needed, imaging identify the actual source.

Neck pain that lasts more than a few weeks, keeps coming back, travels into your arm, or comes with numbness, tingling, or headaches is worth an evaluation. Severe neck pain after a crash, fall, or diving injury; neck pain with a fever, a severe headache, and a neck too stiff to bend your chin to your chest; neck pain with shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, or arm or jaw pain; or sudden weakness, new clumsiness in your hands, trouble walking, or loss of bladder or bowel control needs emergency care right away.

Often, yes. Many pinched nerves in the neck improve over several weeks without surgery, and physical therapy, targeted injections, chiropractic care, and spinal decompression can help manage symptoms along the way. Surgery is usually considered when there is progressive weakness or pain that does not respond to conservative treatment.

Yes. Whiplash symptoms often start hours to days after a crash, and a neck that feels only a little stiff can get worse as inflammation builds over the next day or two. An early evaluation checks for injuries that need attention and starts care sooner. You do not need a referral or an attorney to be seen.

Most of our care is covered by many insurance plans, including Medicare. Coverage varies by insurer and individual policy, and our team verifies your benefits before any care begins. If your neck pain is from a car accident, we bill your available auto insurance (PIP) benefits directly.
