After a crash, people often put off getting checked because they are not sure how it works. Do they need a referral from their doctor first? Do they need to hire an attorney before a clinic will see them? Who do they even call? At Integrated Pain Specialists, the answer to the first two is no, and the answer to the third is us.
No Referral Needed
You can call our Bountiful or South Jordan clinic directly. Accident patients can typically be scheduled within a few days of calling, sometimes sooner depending on provider availability. You do not need a referral from a primary care doctor, an ER, or an urgent care. If you did go to the ER or urgent care after the crash, bring whatever records you were given. They help, but they are not required.
No Attorney Needed
You do not need an attorney to be seen. Your health comes first.
If you already have an attorney, we work with them. If you do not and would like to talk to one, we can refer you to attorneys we trust. Whether and when to involve an attorney is your decision. We are a medical practice, not a law firm, so legal questions belong with a lawyer.
How Your Care Gets Paid
We bill your available auto insurance (PIP) benefits directly and work with you and the insurance carriers, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to you for care those benefits cover.
If your PIP runs out or you do not have it, care can often continue. If you have an attorney, we may be able to treat you under a letter of protection, a medical lien that defers payment until your case settles. If you do not have an attorney, we can often bill your health insurance, depending on your coverage and eligibility. For the details of what Utah PIP covers, see Utah PIP after a car accident.
Why Not Wait and See?
Pain after a crash often builds over the first few days as adrenaline wears off. Getting checked early means your care starts while the injury is fresh, before stiffness and compensation patterns settle in, and it puts your symptoms on record from the start, which guides your treatment.
How Getting Started Works
Your first step is a free consultation, and there is no charge for it. We talk through how the crash happened, what you have felt since, including symptoms that seemed minor, and what your options are, so you can decide whether our practice is a good fit.
If you move forward, a thorough exam of the areas that hurt and the areas that can refer pain to them follows, with a review of any imaging. Those services, and your treatment, may be billed to your available PIP benefits. The goal is a clear picture of what was injured and a plan for your care.
What to Bring
- The date of the crash and a short description of what happened
- Any ER, urgent care, or imaging records from after the accident
- A list of your medications
- Your auto insurance information, and your claim number if you have one
- Your health insurance card
- Your attorney’s contact information, if you have one
- A note of your symptoms and when each one started
What Care Can Include
Medical providers, chiropractors, and physical therapists work together at each clinic, so your plan is built from the whole toolbox. Depending on your injuries, that can include chiropractic care, physical therapy, massage therapy, rehabilitative exercise, and targeted injections from our medical providers when pain is severe.
Make the Call
Whether it was a car, truck, motorcycle, rideshare, bicycle, or pedestrian accident, if something does not feel right, you do not need permission from anyone to get it checked. Book a free consultation at our Bountiful or South Jordan clinic, or read more about our auto accident injury care.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral to see a doctor after a car accident?
Not at Integrated Pain Specialists. You can call our Bountiful or South Jordan clinic directly.
Do I need a lawyer before I get treatment after a car accident?
No. You do not need an attorney to be seen. If you already have one, we work with them.
Can you recommend a personal injury attorney?
Yes. If you do not have an attorney and would like one, we can refer you to attorneys we trust. Whether to hire one is your decision.
What should I bring to my first visit after a car accident?
The date and details of the crash, any ER, urgent care, or imaging records, a list of your medications, your auto insurance information and claim number, your health insurance card, your attorney’s contact information if you have one, and notes on your symptoms.
How soon after a car accident should I see a doctor?
As soon as you notice symptoms. They often build over the first few days. Emergency warning signs, such as a worsening headache, weakness, or loss of bladder control, need the ER right away.
Will I have to pay out of pocket after a car accident?
We bill your available auto insurance (PIP) benefits directly, so there is no out-of-pocket cost to you for care those benefits cover. If your PIP runs out or you do not have it, care can often continue through your health insurance, or we may be able to treat you under a letter of protection if you have an attorney.
What is a letter of protection?
A letter of protection is a medical lien. If you have an attorney and your PIP benefits run out or are not available, we may be able to continue your care with payment deferred until your case settles.
