How Does Acupuncture Work?

In traditional Chinese acupuncture, there are as many as 2,000 acupuncture points on the human body.

Needles inserted in specific combinations at these points interact with the fascial network (our internal messenger system) to alter brain chemistry.

For example to reduce pain, acupuncture points will tell your brain to increase endorphins (aka the body’s natural painkillers).

You Owe It To Yourself To Understand All Your Treatment Options So You Can Make The Best Decisions Concerning Your Health.

Who Is a Candidate for Acupuncture?

Our licensed acupuncturists meet with each patient prior to their first treatment to ensure they are a suitable candidate for acupuncture, but most men and women looking for a natural approach to overall wellness are candidates for acupuncture.

Those who are not eligible for acupuncture include those with hemophilia or contagious skin diseases.

We take special precautions when working with those on blood-thinning medication or tend to bruise easily.

Integrated Pain Specialists

Pain Management & Opioid Dependency

An epidemic of drug abuse and mortality from prescription pain medication, cannot go unnoticed.

There is substantial evidence in support of non-opioid alternatives to chronic pain management, including other pharmacologic approaches, exercise, physical therapy, acupuncture, weight loss, smoking cessation, chiropractic care, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and other integrative health modalities.

At Integrated Pain Specialists, we are proud to have never prescribed any medication, ever.

What Training do Acupuncturists Receive?

All of our highly-trained, expert Healers are New York State licensed with a Master’s or Doctorate degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

Do the Needles Hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very thin, and most people feel no pain or very little pain when they are inserted. They often say they feel energized or relaxed after the treatment. However, the needles can cause temporary soreness.

Is it Safe?

Acupuncture is considered to be safe when done by a trained professional. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates acupuncture needles and restricts their use to licensed practitioners. The FDA requires acupuncture needles to be sterile, nontoxic, and labeled for single use.

Heather Moore, L.Ac

Heather Moore, L.Ac, is a California and NCCAOM certified licensed acupuncturist and a specialist in the treatment of pain and injury. Heather takes a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of pain and strongly believes in integrative medicine to comprehensively treat and eliminate pain and dysfunction after injury; she uses acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and functional medicine.

Heather graduated with a Masters of Science, Magne Cum Laude, from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, San Diego, in 1999. Here, she had a 2-year apprenticeship with Matt Callison L.Ac., founder of AcuSport, and leader in the acupuncture sports medicine field. After graduation, she continued her studies in the treatment of pain with the late Dr. Tan L.Ac. and Whitfield Reeves L.Ac.

Heather discovered the benefits of acupuncture over 25 years ago for a gynecological issue. The only treatment offered by her gynecologist was birth control, which she then discovered she had an allergy to synthetic estrogen. Heather sought an acupuncturist and kinesiologist and her symptoms resolved within 2 cycles. Amazed and intrigued by this experience and also knowing the limitations of Western Medicine, she developed a passion for learning the healing mechanisms of the human body, which she finds is a perfectly designed biological system.

When Heather isn’t treating patients, she is outside in nature, honing her archery skills, learning something new, or spending time with friends.
