What Is Chiropractic Care?
Restoring Motion Where Joints Have Stiffened
Chiropractic care is hands-on treatment for the joints of the spine and body. A chiropractor uses a quick, controlled pressure, called an adjustment or spinal manipulation, to move a joint that is not moving well.
Low back pain, neck pain and headaches are the most common reasons people see a chiropractor. Research supports spinal manipulation for certain types of low back pain, and studies suggest it may help some neck pain and headaches too. Your chiropractor checks your progress along the way and adjusts your plan as needed.
At Integrated Pain Specialists, chiropractic care is one part of a larger team. Our chiropractors work alongside physical therapists and medical providers, so if your pain needs more than an adjustment, the same team plans the next step.
Is Chiropractic Care Right for You?
Who Chiropractic Care Helps
Chiropractic care is most often used for spine and joint pain that comes from how things move. It may help if:
- You have low back pain or neck pain that keeps coming back
- Your neck or back is stiff, especially in the morning or after sitting
- You get headaches that start at the base of your skull or come with neck tension
- Your neck or back has not felt right since a car accident
- You want to try a hands-on, drug-free option before injections or surgery
Each patient receives a full evaluation of posture, mobility and spinal health before any treatment begins, so you know whether chiropractic care fits your pain. See how we treat back pain, neck pain and headaches.
Before Your First Adjustment
Is Chiropractic Care Safe for You?
Chiropractic care is drug-free and generally safe when it is done by a trained, licensed chiropractor, and serious problems are rare. Before any adjustment, your chiropractor reviews your health history and examines you, and some people need an X-ray first.
That check looks for anything that calls for a different approach, such as severe osteoporosis or numbness or weakness in an arm or leg. If an adjustment isn’t the right tool for you, physical therapy, massage or medical care can take its place, all within the same team.
What to Expect
Your Chiropractic Visit, Step by Step
- Evaluation. We go over your history and symptoms and check your posture, range of motion and spine before any treatment begins. Some people need imaging, such as an X-ray, before an adjustment.
- A plan for your case. Your chiropractor explains what they found, what they recommend and roughly how many visits to expect, and adjusts that as you respond.
- The adjustment. You lie or sit on a padded table while the chiropractor applies a quick, controlled pressure to the joint. You may hear a pop, which is usually gas releasing inside the joint.
- Other care if it helps. Your plan may also include massage or physical therapy for the muscles around the joint.
- Afterward. Many people go right back to their day. Some feel mild soreness for a day or two, much like after a new workout.
- Progress checks. We reassess as you go and bring in physical therapy or medical care if your pain needs more than adjustments.
Part of a Bigger Plan
Chiropractic Care as Part of Your Wider Plan
An adjustment can restore motion, and physical therapy can help build the strength and habits that may help relief last.
When pain is coming from a disc, a nerve or an inflamed joint, our team can add spinal decompression, targeted injections or other medical care to the same plan. Your providers share one plan, so your care is coordinated instead of pieced together.
Whether you come to Bountiful or South Jordan, the goal is the same: less pain and better movement, with less need for surgery or daily medication when possible. Start with a consultation, and your provider will recommend the care, or combination of care, that fits your situation best.
Insurance Coverage
Is Chiropractic Care Covered by Insurance?
Most of our care is covered by many insurance plans, including Medicare. Coverage varies by insurer and individual policy, and our team verifies your benefits before any care begins. If you were hurt in a car accident, we bill your available auto insurance (PIP) benefits directly.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Chiropractic Care FAQs
Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes. When adjustments are done by a trained, licensed chiropractor, they are generally safe, and serious complications are rare. Mild soreness for a day or two is the most common side effect, and your chiropractor reviews your health history and examines you first so your care fits you.
What does a chiropractor treat?
Most often low back pain, neck pain and headaches, along with stiff joints, posture-related pain and soft tissue injuries such as whiplash. Research supports spinal manipulation for certain types of low back pain, and it may help some neck pain and headaches.
Does an adjustment hurt?
Usually not. You may feel pressure and hear a pop, and some people are a little sore afterward, much like after exercise. Tell your chiropractor if you are nervous about an adjustment, and they will talk through your options.
How many visits will I need?
It depends on your condition and how you respond. Your chiropractor will give you an estimate after your evaluation and adjust your plan as you go.
Can chiropractic care help after a car accident?
It can. After an evaluation to check for a fracture or other injury that needs different care, chiropractic care is commonly part of whiplash and accident recovery, together with physical therapy. You do not need a referral or an attorney to be seen.
Do you take insurance for chiropractic care?
Most of our care is covered by many insurance plans, including Medicare. Coverage varies by insurer and individual policy, and our team verifies your benefits before any care begins. After a car accident, we bill your available PIP benefits directly.
