It’s OK to quit whatever diet you’re on. In fact, we recommend it. But don’t give up on your weight loss goals! Weight control is simpler than you probably realize, but more complex than any one fad diet, wonder pill, or vows to swear off carbs can address. If you’re willing to commit to real lifestyle change, you can take weight control off your to-do list forever with these Ways To Control Weight Forever.
Fat makes you fat. Gluten is the root of all evil. And other myths.
You’ve probably heard the good news. Fat doesn’t really make you fat. But, it’s complicated. Not all fat is created equal. And it’s usually not the bad guy in the “fat” issue. The truth is that we need a variety of good fats in our diet to be healthy: wild fatty fish, grass-fed organic meats, unrefined coconut or olive oils, organic grass fed butter, ghee, nuts, etc. If you stick with these, you’re good.
Gluten, on the other hand, is bad for everyone. It’s highly inflammatory and may cause significant weight issues, depending on frequency and duration of exposure, microbiome type and genetic factors. Inflammation creates the perfect conditions for both weight gain and chronic illness to develop; and often, the two go hand in hand. Food sensitivities, namely dairy and gluten, are both common root causes of weight problems. But the biggest culprit of all isn’t gluten; it’s processed foods. They are chock full of chemical obesogens, designed to make us eat more than we should leading us right down the path to obesity. Not only are we eating bad foods, we’re simply consuming too much of them.
A healthy lifestyle that remains constant is much more likely to maintain health and longevity through the years than any “diet.” Certain popular diets – keto, paleo, vegan, mediterranean, etc. – as therapeutic application can be helpful but aren’t suitable for everyday living. You will always gain the weight back after phasing out of a diet and returning to old habits. The only way to keep the weight off is to make a permanent commitment to significant lifestyle change.
3 LIFESTYLE CHANGES FOR LASTING WEIGHT CONTROL
- Sleep and Movement: Don’t let anything mess with your sleep and physical activity. We hate to nag but it can’t be overstated. Both are critical, not only for weight issues but overall health. 7-9 hours minimum restorative sleep each night should be a priority, along with plenty of movement every day, anything you enjoy. You don’t have to be a marathon racer, triathlon or gym-goer. Everyone can find something they can do even if it’s just walking for 30 minutes. If you have chronic pain that prevents you from being active, enroll in a treatment plan to get back on track.
- Stay hydrated: Drink 16-32 ounces of purified water every day. Even better, add a tsp. of unrefined natural sea salt or himalayan salt to 8 oz of water daily. Lemon water is particularly great for adequate hydration and digestive health. Make Lemon Water With Turmeric, Honey & Sea Salt your beverage of choice every morning and you’ll see amazing results.
- Eat whole organic foods 90% of the time with at least 50% of those raw. Avoid dairy and gluten – the most common food allergies – and eat mostly plant-based whole foods, organic and unprocessed. Meat consumption should consist of one serving for every 3 servings of vegetables. Stick to grass-fed, organic meat & poultry, wild fish, and unrefined coconut and olive oil vs. vegetable oils. We only need 50-75 grams of plant or animal protein daily (most Americans eat 3 times this much). And get rid of those unprocessed chemical-packed foods making you eat more and literally causing you pain. To start, it helps to make a list of all the healthy, whole foods you love. Focusing on what you can eat instead of what you can’t keeps you in a positive mindset and makes you feel less restricted. Eventually, you’ll only crave the foods that are good for you and wonder how you ever ate the bad stuff!
This may be a radically new way of eating, but a necessary lifestyle change to avoid not only weight problems but chronic illness like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer, alzheimer’s, etc. And while there are many different reasons people suffer from weight issues, what we know for sure is that all obesity begins in the gut.
